In an atmosphere of melancholy, Peter Michel has spent a lifetime writing, recording and touring, and that despite his young age. At just 17, the Seattle-based musician toured extensively with the Dream Pop outfit Craft Spells and most recently met with great interest with his personal project Hibou .
On «Halve», Hibou’s third album, Michel creates a characteristic ethereal record that addresses the dichotomies between childhood and adulthood, self and society, as well as authenticity and superficiality. Michel’s vocals move from echoing whispers to punk accusations; his guitar ranges from dizzying surf hooks to lush 80s-inspired chords. Control – and the lack of it – echoes throughout the album, and the episode is ten deeply vulnerable songs that let the listener romanticize their own childhood, teenage years, and morning.
