Event Details

Sahra Halgan comes from Somaliland, an autonomous region in the north of Somalia, which for years has campaigned for recognition as an independent state. She is considered as a music icon in her country, which she had to leave in 1992 due to the civil unrest. Today she again lives in her homeland, engages herself politically and sings traditional songs of her ancestors with a contemporary instrumentation. Her wish is to globally support the Somaliland people in the Diaspora. With astonishing ease, her expressive voice conveys a life full of homesickness, memories, and grief in exile. Simultaneously she impresses us with her huge stage presence, energy and joie de vivre!

Supported by the SüdKulturFonds.
