SYSTEM OF A DOWN

The grand masters of the Alternative Metal System Of A Down will return to Europe in 2020. Founded in 1994 and with just five studio albums, four US Armenians have become a globally celebrated institution. Not least because of their breathtaking live performance. In addition to festival appearances, two exclusive headline concerts in Berlin and Zurich have now been confirmed for summer 2020. Support will be provided in Berlin on June 8th by Special Guest Ego Kill Talent from São Paulo, who recently released their second album and toured Brazil with Metallica and Greta Van Fleet. There is also a special visit to Zurich on June 19: the Prog formation ORk.

There are not many bands in the world that are as unique and headstrong as System Of A Down. Her debut “System Of A Down” appeared in 1998 and turned the metal scene upside down. The wild mix of styles consisting of hard riffs, fast beats and Armenian folk sounds becomes the flagship of the band. In their texts, they take a sweeping look at society – sometimes dadaistically, sometimes lyrically, always directly in the face of the rulers.

The breakthrough into the mainstream was achieved in 2001 with the second release „Toxicity“. With songs like „Chop Suey“, „Toxicity“ and „Aerials“, SOAD create a masterpiece that is as intelligent as it is powerful in a politically heated time. In addition to great recognition from fans and critics, SOAD also achieves high chart placements, gold and platinum awards and sold-out tours bestowed on the whole world. Just a year later, „Steal This Album!“ Marks another milestone and the title also makes a political statement. In 2005 „Mezmerize“ and „Hypnotize“ are the last albums released by System Of A Down.

All five studio albums have achieved huge commercial success and have brought the band over 40 million records sold worldwide. Three of the albums debut at number 1 on the US Billboard album charts immediately after their release. Four Grammy nominations and one Grammy for the single „BYOB“ in the category Best Hard Rock Performance 2006 follow.

Often attempts have been made to categorize the band’s style, to impose a label on them, but SOAD cannot be pigeonholed. Frontman Serj Tankian says: “For me, SOAD is not a progressive band. But of course not a typical pop project either. For us it is first and foremost important to make music that is unique and that no one has heard before. „And bass player Odadjian adds:“ You can compare us with who you want. I’m not interested. Comparisons and drawers have no effect on SOAD. The fact is: we are who we are and the others are who they are.
