Instead of the «Artist in Residence», for 2019 the Moods Jazz Association has organized a new «Carte Blanche» series which thus puts six outstanding musicians from the Zurich Jazz scene in the spotlight. They are offered the opportunity to compile a program that can be played throughout the year in Moods and other venues.

The third evening of David Meier’s Carte Blanche sessions begins with a solo concert by the Japanese drummer, Yuko Oshima. In her piece «KéfuKéfu» she plays with opposites – dense/sparse, abstract/concrete, delicate/rough.

For his new ensemble, David Meier has written compositions that are based on abstract interval structures and complex rhythmical cells. They define the context, however simultaneously provide much room for improvisation and individual expression within the sound of the collective.
